Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Busby permission

Hullo John:
What a genuine pleasure to hear one of the calm voices in the Busby
reprint discussion. Your points are correct, IMHO, and really do go to the
heart of the matter. It is more about form than legality.
Where does it go from here? Andy Busby and Jim Joiner are in
discussion as to how best pick up the project that Frank was in the middle
of when he died - that is, do a straight reprint with Andy's foreword
added? - or reprint the text with an update on the submersible directory
only? - or?? Andy is very enthusiastic about going forward with 'Manned
Submersibles' in some fashion - I hope this doesn't change when he gets
into the heavy work! He is quite aware of how to do the update on the
directory, since he worked for Frank on the last two 'Undersea Vehicle
Directory (s)'. Frank said, at the time, that Andy 'did most of it'.- but,
of course, it was Frank's template from the original issue.
I called Rear Admiral G.W. 'Jerry' Ellis the other day, ( he is a
real 'DeepWorker 2000' fan - learned to dive it in Monterey in 1998)
'Manned Submersibles' was under his direct authority, since he is the
former 'Oceanographer of the Navy', now retired, but still active in
special projects for USN. It will be interesting to hear his comments after
he has had a chance to review the Busby file. Frank was highly thought of
by all the USN guys and is well remembered in Washington ( Frank lived a
stone's throw away -in Arlington, Va.) - everbody, it seems, has a Busby
story!
I agree that it's time to take this topic off the Psub forum. Ray
was most liberal in allowing the thing to go as far as it did. If I learn
of the timing/scheduling of the reprint - or if I am told that it did not
go forward, I will post that info.
