No need to dive deep just dive subsurface to eliminate detection from
surface vehicles including surveillance aircraft.  Your assumption of heavy
weight is predicated upon diving deep, and apparently depending upon lead
ballast to submerge  As Nemo suggested on 11/3/00 this thing is do-able
provided light-weight materials are used such as carbon fiber.  In addition
a method of power-diving must be achieved.  You will not be able to stay on
the bottom perhaps, but you can submerge and change direction to confound
and confuse the adversary.
