Thanks, Mike!

Bush and Gore can have the so-called "real world": I prefer Vulcania! ;-)

Spent the day working on the NAUTILUS MINISUB VIDEO (it's getting close!);
and making a "Captain Nemo"modification for my Seibe Gorman hardhat, which I
plan to use in some underwater scenes for either the HOMEBUILT SUBMARINES
VIDEO or the DISCOVERY CHANNEL 20,000 LEAGUES program, depending on how soon
I can get it finished. (Making a functional replica of Nemo's dive suit and
"electric gun" as seen in the movie.)

Flying back to Oahu tomorrow to touch base with the surgeon: stitches out
and such, I guess. Still planning on taking a few more days off from "the
job". Bought a bunch of sheet metal and stuff for the submarine, and will
be doing as much exterior detailing in metalwork as I can. Looks like I've
got to replace the motor, too.

KEN MARTINDALE: About oil compensation in trolling motors: I hear what
you're saying, Buddy! At least we know air works and doesn't gum things up!
But the techs affirm using transformer oil inside the lower end unit. I'm
pulling the MK 4HP out of my sub, and replacing it with a new motor. (I
figure I can get the old one working again; just don't have time to mess
with it right now before the DISCOVERY CHANNEL shoot). When I do, I'll fill
the 4HP with oil, clamp it to the side of the pool, see how she holds up,
and post the results.

By the way: you were right about the numbers. Aint no way this is a 4
horsepower electric motor! What MK meant was it supposedly "produces as
much thrust as a Briggs & Stratton 4 horse motor and prop". (Yeah, well,
I'm not too sure about that, either!)

RON LEONARD: I spoke to that local guy I told you about; his name is Robin.
He's got a SPORTSUB, and he's interested in the trade I mentioned, so I
might be acquiring it. Turns out this guy and I have old-time connections
going back some 25 years in the diving and sport-parachuting business. (He
was a dive-shop owner in California; jumped a couple dropzones where I was a
JM and pilot; and we know a lot of the same people from back then.) Anyway,
he lives in Kona now; still has the SPORTSUB and a MAKO powerboat. Looks
like we're going to be doing some diving and sub-driving in the
not-too-distant future. I think his SPORTSUB needs some parts and work,
though. So I'll probably be getting in touch with you about a price list
one of these days!

Aloha, e malama pono a-hui-ho!
