As a PS to my reply to your latest post, let me qualify that:  model
submarines won't teach one everything he needs to know about how real
submarine systems work; but there are some things relative to real sub
operation one can learn from functional models.

Building and flying R/C airplanes won't teach one how to build or pilot an
actual airplane, either; but there are similarities between both that can
aid in the learning process, as long as one recognizes the differences, too.
The same is true with submarines, but only to that same limited degree.
