[PSUBS-MAILIST] Great book on hulls

I have on more than one occasion mentioned a great book I have
used in my own work with pressure vessels. Though this is by no means a
tool for the mathematically fragile, it has a lot of powerful ideas and
analyses in it worth considering. Some multivariate calculus is involved,
be sure to check out the section on heads and cylindrical shells,
particularly Figure 3.1 looks of use to K-boat style hulls with internal
ring stiffeners.

	Nash, William A.
Hydrostatically Loaded Structures: The structural mechanics,
analysis and design of powered submersibles.
	Elsevier Science, Ltd. 1995.
	ISBN 0 08 037876 5

In particular check out the section on treating the reduction in
strength of an imperfectly machines shell, like an out-of-round hemi-head
or cylinder. Very important if you are designing your own boat to be used
at any significant depth and thinking about those tolerance on your hull
drawings!
