Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Russian Sub Sunk

Hi all,

I remember reading (CNN, MSNBC, etc.) that one of the alternatives
(last-ditch?)would be to float the sub up with pontoons/balloons,
whatever. The odd thing was that the article said they couldn't float
it all the way up--only to 150' or so (where diving might be a bit
easier). Now, I know it wasn't supposed to be a technical article, so I
wasn't surprised about a lack of detail, but if they could float it off
the bottom at all, shouldn't it go all the way up, and even accelerate
(assuming the pontoons aren't rigid)? I'm not saying this is the best
thing to try, but that particular detail seemed a bit odd. The only
thing I could come up with was that 150' accounted for the size of the
pontoons and the length of whatever is connecting them to the sub.
Thoughts?
