It's not the magnetic abilities of the material that is the problem, it's the 
conductivity.

What happens when you move a conductor through a magnetic field (or visa 
versa) is an electric current gets generated, electric currents generate 
magnetic fields and start interacting with the magnets by attracting them, 
hence slowing them down.
