[PSUBS-MAILIST] Re: Russian Sub Sunk
Hi, Mike:
Re your question on a sub-rescue system that will mate at an
extreme angle: Nuytco designed such a system in 1994 and I patented it in
1995/96. We ( Hardsuits International Inc. ) sold the first model to the
Royal Australian Navy for about 10 million bucks. The system is formally
known as an " articulating pressure conduit" but more familiarly known in
sub rescue/escape circles as 'Remora". We successfully mated at a DISSUB
angle in excess of 45 degrees, at a depth of 1800 feet. The patent covers a
modification to the Remora that would allow it to mate at any angle even if
the DISSUB was upside down! This presumes that the sail height would allow
access to the rescue/escape hatch or a work-class ROV or sub could be used
to excavate to the hatch. If you wish to check it out, you can access US
patents on the net . . check under my name: Rene T. Nuytten ( blush).
