Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] motor seals

Jon,
The trolling motor shaft has a seal but it would not be necessary in
this system. The trolling motor would have on its shaft two magnets
mounted say one to three inches from the center of rotation, sort of like a
"T" with the magnets on the ends of the top of the "T" if that makes
sense. There will be a second "T" with magnets, on the other side of a
barrier that holds the pressure back. When the motor drives the inside "T"
the outside "T" follows within a few degrees of rotation. The water side
"T" is rotating at the same RPM as the inner (driven) side "T". The motor
side is the driving element. Water can not get through the barrier to be
able to get into the motor. The only use of a seal may be to protect the
bearings that allow the water side "T" to rotate.
The two "T"s will be placed as close as possible to the barrier to get
the best coupling possible.
