Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Pressure compensation

You all !
There has been a lot of discussion about the type of oil to use in a motor
housing to compensate the external pressure.
The Deep Sea Systems site http://www.deepseasystems.com/thl404-8d.htm
states they use " food grade mineral oil " for their brushless trolling
motors. How easy to get or exspensive it is, I don't know. have some spare
stored in the sub also, for a good fry up ! What I can't imagine is using
oil in a brushed motor. One reason is as has been mentioned, you must get
some miniscle particles of a conductive nature, eventually floating in the
oil. Another reason is, I may be wrong but I thought brushes gave of gas in
the arcing of hteir operation and I believe this is ozone gas mainly. Does
this build up if you have oil in your motor and does it then get compressed
and ruin the whole purpose anyway ? It would only need a small amount of gas
as has been mentioned. Oil in brushed motors, I don't think so.
