approach-maneuver consist of a half-roll or a half-loop?

Or (making this sub-related) let's say that guy from the movie THE FLY was
piloting Graham Hawk's  hydrobatic DEEP FLIGHT submersible, and wanted to
land inverted on the ceiling of the TITANIC's grand ballroom...would he
set-up with a half-roll or a half-loop?
