<< Hi, Vance!
Just back from a week in Bermuda - lectures/presentations at
Bermuda Underwater Research Institute _ pretty hectic week, but - hey! -
pretty nice place to be hectic in . .(G) Friend of mine is in the final
budgeting stages of a movie production based on Roger Chapman's book "No
time on our side" -( about the Pisces subsmash and
hair-of-our-chinny-chin-chins rescue in the North Sea so many years ago
!!) He is tracking down all the Pisces boats so he can get one to use in
the film . . I was able to put him onto several . . .but one I dont have a
contact for is Pisces 2 - which is supposed to be in your neck of the woods
- in Miami, Fla. Is this something you've got info on?? I've gone thru' the
UK routes for the batch that was in Leith when Vickers Oceanics broke up
and they are all over the place . . .probably the Russian P7 and P11 are
the best bets . .at least according to Anatoly S. He says they are "good
shape, dese bots" . . . Anyhow, would appreciate anything you can find out
on the owner in Miami - I've checked with ABS, but P2 has not been classed
for way more than 20 years, so they don't have any idea of the current
owner.
New Subject: DeepWorker 7 is at Cape Canaveral now, doing tests
prior to the shuttle launch. If you decide to wander down, let me know and
I'll get a schedule. Jeff Heaton or Mike Humphrey would be the contact guys
in our (Nuytco) crew.

Phil Nuytton,

It's <2 hours from the house to the Cape, so if it's possible to visit, I'd be delighted to do so. If Catherine can hook me up, that would be great. And if you are going to be around as well, all the better. Is DW7 the first titanium one, or is that upcoming? Speaking of which, how much more expensive is titanium as a finished product than A516/A537? Or HY-100 for that matter?

Re: P2--I'll re-request a track from Pete Hoffman, who is being coy. I am relatively certain that he knows the whereabouts of said vehicle. It belonged to RSL did it not? And somewhere in there ended up in the States. I don't know why, unless the messy divorce betwixt the RSL owners (that would be the guy with the big ideas and the wife with the money, as I recall) netted the guy with the big ideas his very own submarine. I suspect it would cost about thirty-five pounds of US 20 dollar bills to even attempt an overhaul of a Pisces class vehicle to ABS spec, even if it was stored REALLY, REALLY carefully. Every cable on the thing would be dry rotted, and oh, what a mess that compensated hydraulics package would be! Anyhow, I will give Pete another call and prod him a skosh. (And I'd love to be turning wrenches on that job, of course).

Best Regards,
Vance
