RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] buoyancy

Ken,

I have to be done in July because it is a racing submarine and the race is
being held in July. The race is being held in a large tank and we don't
intend to test the sub in water any deeper than 30 feet. I imagine we will
have numerous problems with buoyancy as well. I would appreciate it if you
could tell me what some of the problems were so that I might avoid them.
Thanks for the suggestion about the viewports but hopefully we won't run the
sub into anything so the strength isn't a really big concern (I will note
again here that it is a wet sub so that no one takes that comment the wrong
way.)

Wade

Wade,

Why do you have to be done by July?

I also wonder what stops the sub from going deeper than 30 feet? Submarine
races? If that is your depth limit, I hope you didn't have the buoyancy
problems I had.

Have fun,

Ken Martindale

PS I was going to suggest the archives with your question about the
viewport.
Incidentally, if you use polycarbonate you would end up with a lot more
durable viewport. I have rammed bottom several times with no problems.
Except
I shouldn't have rammed bottom. The problem with absorbed water vapor would
be worse though and would require a longer bake cycle. Good luck.
