Pat,

When I was looking at the "Horsepower" rating that Minn Kota used to use I 
found the rating is at best flaky. I talked to them and was told the 
horsepower rating was as follows: Minn Kota motor X pushed a certain size 
boat over a certain length. If it took a gasoline engine of X2 horsepower to 
do the same thing then the horsepower was equal. I told them that sounded 
like marketing was involved and the results were questionable and they 
agreed. They stated the newer ratings are based on  calibrated strain gage 
readings to measure thrust.
