hi katie,

the sailboat feels the water, as to diferent materials, this is due to the
fact that salt water and fresh water have different specific gravity, been
1 for pure water, (fresh and 1.03 for salt water,

the result of this is that the sailboat will wheight less in saltwater, and
due that for the same propulsion  amount exactly(wind) it will be able to
move faster,

the parameters for this experience can only be tested on a tank under
totally control conditions,
