Time to call GUINNESS and ask what the underwater speed record for the 1/4
mile is in minisubs (if there is one!).
NHRA? (Or maybe some power boat association?) It's worth running it by
them, just for grins if nothing else.
They might not pay much attention as long as it's just "wah-hah"; but like
that movie said: "If you build it, they will come."
I've already measured my engine and one of my existing hulls; it will fit;
the numbers work out on paper leaving me plenty of additional buoyancy for
necessary equipment; and the CG looks doable.
I really should spend my free time installing the cosmetic bubble windows,
bolsters to the "raker teeth", scale longboat, anchors, and 15,000
simulated rivets on my NAUTILUS MINISUB; but this sub-dragster project
wouldn't be that hard to build from where I am right now, and I keep
finding myself sitting on the couch with the graph paper and calculator
when I know I should be down in the shop prettying-up my other boat.
UNDERWATER DRAG RACES!!!! Gawd! I get stoked just thinking about it!!!
(Gonna be rough filling the bleachers with spectators, though. Maybe I
could work a deal with the glass-bottom tourist boat folks. Instead of hot
dogs and popcorn, we could sell fish sandwiches and poke. Why, the
possibilities are endless!!)
I can just see it now; the "christmas tree" (hanging below the starter's
boat) goes from green to red: BA-WAAAAAAA-GURGLE-GURGLE-GURGLE!!
Warp-factor nine in zilch-point-nada! (And, steam is less smelly than
tire smoke!)
VBR,
Pat
