I have built a 6000 pound displacement sub I call the "Vindicator". It has taken me years to construct and it is highly automated electronic wise. It can do better than 6 knots for short periods of time as it has a 6.7 Hp electric motor. It is constructed from a new piece of 0.360 gas pipeline 10 feet long with 0.375 eliptical end caps. The ballast tanks are located under fiberglass cowlings on each end. There are 5 windows of 1.25 inch acrylic plastic. The pitch is controlled by a 325 pound weight that is moved hydraulicly from a hydraulic control system located inside the hull. The boat is 22 feet in length and sports a 15 inch bronze three blade prop with 8 inch pitch. The thrust swings about 40 degrees left and right for steering. The sub on the surface leans to the outside of the turn a little bit like a destroyer as it has a fairly short turning radius for such high speeds. The pitch ranges from -20 to + 20 degrees depending on the position of the slide weight. There are no dive planes! I built a heavy duty trailer for transporting the sub.
