How about having the exit on the bottom, thereby avoiding the need to blow it

How about:  a 1 atm sub that could be flooded whereupon you may exit.   Then
when you reenter it can be blown dry becoming an ambiant sub/recompression
chamber.  You could prowl around the deep and get out and take a closer look
at things.
