Re: Water Jets

Using water jets for propulsion and attitude control is not new. Cousteau
used this technique on his diving saucers. His mini-subs had a water pump,
diverter valve, and two independently rotatable nozzles. With this
arrangement he could go up, down, left, right, forward, backwards, and spin
on its own axis. On the surface, he would point them straight up and shoot
water into the air like a fountain to make the sub easier to find by his
surface support teams.

I'm thinking it might be feasible to have a sub propelled by a water jet,
and maneuvered by smaller jets pushing in different directions. Maybe using
pressure washer pumps? It would make a sub a lot more streamlined without
any motors hanging outside! Can anyone think of any pros and cons to this
 idea?
