Well, Graham Hawkes built one (Deep Flight) that has a 1000 meter max
operating depth...

The Navy has built a large AUV using a cylindrical carbon fiber
pressure hull that has done 20,000 feet.

There's nothing wrong with fiberglass as a material, like everything
else (including steel) you have to know what you're doing...
