Bouyancy, Semi-Dry Submersibles?

This chat on packaged plans has me scratching my noggin? How do you figure out neutral bouyancy in a semi-dry submersible? In a single atmosphere submarine I know that it's cubic feet of interior times X-something pounds per cf. Deduct hull weight and toss in ballasts accordingly. In a semi-dry submersible do you have to roughly balance the dry weight distribution in the bow and stern, figuring the center of gravity is in the cabin? How do you know how big the air pocket will be? Or how do you design a large enough pocket for two people? Is any one shape better than any other for that?
