Actually, when I was visiting Cape Canaveral in Florida, they had the
equipment used with Werner Von Braun's earlier rockets housed in a
blockhouse just like the one he launched from. Allow me to explain the
structure of the windows in this building...(note, this building is built
withstand a rather large explosion, the sort that would turn a buick into
iron filings) It consisted of three "layers" of 6" thick sodium-lime
glass, which where composed of a number of layers of 1/4" thick peices
glued together, sandwiched between each 6" "layer" was a two-inch-thick
space filled with an inert gas. Now, I'll be the first to admit that it
wasn't the highest optical quality, but you could never tell that it was
that thick. It was surprisingly clear. TTYL!
