I have a little black book that tells what every dimension of pipe diameter
and wall thickness, flat plate any thickness, square tube, etc,  REALLY came
in handy figuring weights. Volurmes formulas were also in the book. 
Pocket Ref  by Thomas J. Glover   Sequoia Publishing, Littleton Co. 

1/2" steel plate is 20.40 lbs per sq. ft.
3/4"   is 30.60 lbs per

Indispensible book for design!
Safety engineering is a separate deal tho and that's what is holding me up.
