RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Thruster

Ok, yea, I see it now. I'm a idiot. haha. I think I get it now. I am designing the rotater cuff more like my other tru hulls with the anti weeping design. I incorporated this design with Kitteredge's basic design, but changed it a little to make it servicable. I think I understand the shaft seals now.

Thanks Jon,

Hi Scott,

The motor housing uses a mechanical seal on the shaft.  Look at drawing K350-025-0 and you'll see it (#15), plus in the parts table item #15 describes the seal as PS-309 which is available from a number of sources, just google PS-309.

Jon,

I've studdied the blueprints and the pods that I have built and I keep comming back to the same issue that bothers me. The pods are 1ATM and the seals that they show to keep sea water from going into the pods are the two "O" rings. It just seems to me like with the shaft spinning at that speed they would leak or would chew up the "O" rings. Any ideas? The tru hulls I have on my sub are redesigned from the original design which gives me a little better ease of mind for those. My design is supposed to be "weep" proof. Maybe I am just over engineering these things.

Thanks,
Scott Waters
