Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Paint.....Cheap or Proper?

I have had some parts locally powder coated (dry powder product applied electrostatically, then heated in an oven to fuse granules into a seamless coating), and I came to learn that there are two classes of powder coating products: decorative coatings, and protective coatings.  Apparently there are differing degrees of permeability of the finished coatings, and that if you want one which is effective as protection you need to use a highly impermeable product, which may limit colour selection in comparison to the available decorative powder paints.

Greg,

Thanks much for adding that information.  I think I'd be late for my own wedding before I'd let an undercoat harden and then have to sand and tack off the dang thing.  It's a pain to do, and I wouldn't have as much confidence in the long-term adhesion.

Polyurethane, polyester-epoxy, and strait epoxy have all been materials applied by powder coating.  Do you know if it's been done or would be appropriate for our purposes?
