Jon,
Since the WS-108 can display altitude in mean sea level (MSL) and above
ground level (AGL), I would think that it has the capability of being set to the
desired starting point. Otherwise you couldn't adjust it for what the
barometric pressure happened to be for that day at your particular
location.
I should receive it in a few days. When I do, I'll play with it for a while
and post a report. I really prefer analog for applications like
this. In stock car racing all the gauges are installed so that "normal" is
straight up. That way any deviation and the degree of deviation are
immediately apparent. The trouble with analog altimeters in a sub
cockpit is that they're more expensive, take up panel space, and
project several inches to the rear.
However If I come across a used aircraft altimeter before it's been
refurbished and recertified for aviation use, I'm going to grab it if the price
is right.
Best regards,
Jim

The
one thing the WS-108C doesn't provide which is very convenient for
monitoring cabin pressure, is the change in pressure relative to a
starting point. Alec's analog altimeter solution and the barometer I
will be using are both configured to show change in pressure at a
glance. But for $25 I suppose I could exercise my brain and do a
little
math. By the way, the barometer sensor I purchased from
digikey cost
$30. When you look at all the functions of the WS-108C
it becomes clear
what mass production can do for the price of a
product.
