Hi Hugh,

Vertical speed is calculated in software by comparing depth over time. I'm using signed display (+ and -) to indicate direction, a positive number indicates downward motion and negative number indicates upward motion. I felt this was important in cases of night diving where there is no reference point in mid-water although just watching an analog dial motion would also give an idea of how fast you were ascending. But it only takes about ten lines of software code, so it's cheap, so why not just add it was my philosophy.
