Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Piping Advice
Jon,
My linkage is in two parts. My VBT water valve is located as it is on the
prints. I go 90 degrees around the hull with two different links. The first
link goes from the valve to a bell crank type arm on a pivot about 45
degrees up the hull then a second link goes from another point on the bell
crank to the handle.
My battery pods are sealed so I can't get at the batteries. I thought I had
an old one around here but couldn't find it.
Sorry but I can't remember what number battery I used. If you just measure
the room you have available and talk to a battery guy they'll find something
that fits the space. Weren't there any batteries in the sub when you got
it?

That's an interesting VBT arrangement and I never noticed that in the
photos before. It looks like you changed the linkage under the hull as
well since your VBT thru-hulls appear to be offset upwards on the hull
rather than dead center in the bottom of the hull. By the way Dan, do you
have a model # for the batteries you are using? I need a source.

For better access to my VBT valve, I used linkage that connect to the arm

As for the VBT, air supply, air vent and water in and out valve, they are
controlled independently. What I added is a gauge to tell the pressure
in the VBT. When fine tuneing the VBT it's good to know, before opening
the water valve, if your going to push water out or let it in. The
separate controls aren't a problem but the water inlet location on the
original design is, and I'm no bigger then George was.
For air supply, I carry two tanks but only one is connected at a time.
When I run low in the one I'm using, I crawl back and switch the
connection to the other tank. I feel comfortable having that second
cylinder in reserve, and switch out the empty as soon as possible so I
always have a spare on board. It would be helpful to have them both
hooked up so all you need to do is flip a valve to change from tank to
tank but I preferred not to have a lot of high pressure piping in the
sub. I use one first stage scuba regulator that connects directly to the
tank. I guess you could use two of them but it's one more place for a
leak.
