Dan,
I'll run down there and see. Got
another question. How long do you think it would take us to put a K-350
together if we had the thing in kit form? Mine is in pieces and will need some
fabrication fore and aft for the MBTs, but is otherwise more or less intact.
Hull repairs are done. I'm getting some pressure from my long suffering
partner in South Africa to complete the boat so it can be sold or moved or
whatever. It will need to be done prior to Gamma's overhaul. Would you mind
collaborating on that one first?
Vance

Better yet, I've got a Master Shop down the street to buy them off

Vance, Do you have
a website address for ordering this model Minn-Kota ?

Jon,
I'll see if I can find a chain
wrench and send it up to you. As for the Minn-Kota, you can buy the power
head only, new in the box (with a prop) for about $220. Their small motor
controllers (the ones that fit in the trolling motor steering head) are
$125 apiece.

Jim:
There's enough room for two people opposite each other, but I'm not sure
there's room for two chains. The area where the chains would be placed
on the tank head is pretty narrow.
Vance:
I called four "tool" rental places and none of them had a chain wrench.
I haven't even seen any available online for the size I'd need. Most of
the strap and chain wrenches I see are for small pipe like up to 3
inches. The rear motor is in an 8inch diameter cylinder. It's one of
those specialty tools I'm going to have to find from a friend, of a
friend, of a friend, I think.
Dan:
Swapping over to Minn-Kotas is definitely an option, but would be
relatively expensive. I think the 100lb thrusters are hovering around
$1k now and I'd want at least one of them. I found a replacement online
for the mechanical seal and if the motors still work I will probably use
them before swapping over. From a functional perspective, I might as
well use them until they fail.
