[PSUBS-MAILIST] the K-UQC (underwater communication system)
Jon
So far, I have received the following help (referenced below) in my quest
for more information on the so-called K-UQC underwater communication
system, as designed by George Kittredge for his K-boats.
Is it possible that you (or someone else) could send me a copy of the
information available on this topic, such as circuit diagrams, part list,
etc.?
Please advice.
Best regards,
Jens Laland

** The underwater ultrasonic-transceiver built by Kittredge.
** Note the model number KI-2000. I believe this operates at 22khz
[...]
** I think anybody with a set of K-350 plans has the schematic.
[...]
** I looked at the schematics and they are simple. It's an AM system.
[...]
** The transducer is listed as
**
** Gulton Industries
** 8C7 Ceramic Ring
** HDT-31 Mat. Tol. "A"
** Glennite Piezoceramic.
[offlist]
** I knew Gulton Industries and their chief engineer very well. I visited
** their plant in New Jersey several times and purchased some test
** equipment from them for my company. Their chief engineer was very
** capable but their ceramics were not as good as the ones made by Channel
** Industries or Clevite.
**
** Gulton received some government contracts for sonobuoys which used the
** common 1 1/2" diameter cylinder. Their ceramics were used by
** commercial ultrasonic companies probably because of their low price.
**
** Gulton went out of business at least 30 years ago. They closed down -
** no one took over their product line. I probably have the only Gulton
** Industries brochure in existence. It has 25 pages and gives the
** characteristics of their Glennite Piezoceramics.
**
** The information on the HDT-31 material in the Gulton brochure is as
** follows: HDT-31: Featuring low power factor (loss tangent) high "d"
** and high Curie point. These features have made HDT-31 the most widely
** used ceramic in commercial ultrasonic industries and military ASW
** fields.
