[PSUBS-MAILIST] USA Corps of Engineers submersibles policy
I've just finished talking with the Corps of Engineers regarding the
restriction against submersible use in bodies of water within the
Huntington District. The current restriction will remain in place until
a team is created to address a permanent policy for submersible use in
that area with the goal to have that policy in place prior to the start
of the 2012 boating season. Since most of the waters in the district
have already begun to be drawn down for the winter, hopefully the winter
pause in operations will not have tremendous impact on us. The District
Commander has opened the door for PSUBS to play an integral role with
his staff in developing the policy and we will certainly participate as
much as possible to represent our interests. I will be tapping some
PSUBS members on the shoulder to participate in policy discussion with
the Corps.
You can help this process by sending me the names of bodies of water you
make use of for submarine diving which are under control of the US Corps
of Engineers, regardless of which District it is in. I expect that any
policy we end up with will be adopted nation-wide, not just limited to
Huntington District.
I will post our letter to the Corps, and their response, in the members
area on the web site.
Jon
