RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Kort nozzles
It so happens I'm in the
middle of making a kort nozzle myself. We'll see, if what I end up with is
presentable I'll post some photos, but it's still too early to tell. Here's how
I'm going about it. It's a combination 316 SS and epoxy job. First, I got three
SS rings made. The leading and trailing edges will be SS rings, the leading
edge one being made from larger diameter stock. The third ring is for
reinforcement in the middle, and won't be visible as it will be glassed in. The
outer skin of the kort is a sheet of 18 gauge 316 SS, tig welded to the rings.
The skin was the tricky bit so far, because if you remember your
geometry, a developed cone section is actually a shape with two different
diameter curves, and all I had for making it was a jig saw. Anyway, the current
status is that the SS parts are almost done, and I'll be moving on to the epoxy.
The idea for that is to spread it using a cutout of the approximate kort
section, and then mill it on a turntable to a proper finish. I expect the
challenge there will be figuring out the mounting arrangement to do the
milling.

Alan,
Tell us a little more about your nozzles. Are you constructing true
Kort Nozzles with an airfoil type cross section or are you constructing prop
shrouds (ducts) with walls of consistent thickness?
Thanks,
Jim T

Vance,
Most probably busy.
I've been doing my kort nozzles lately. This
involved going round the shops with my
propeller in a plastic bag & fitting it in to
various buckets to find one suitable to mold around.
Maybe it's not the Aliens, maybe it's the men in white
coats.

Okay, Alan. Maybe I don't have a problem after all. Mind you, quiet
from this bunch might be construed two ways. Ominous, as in did the aliens
come get everybody, or busy, as in we aren't talking, we're working. On
subs, one hopes.

Vance,
I haven't had any sub emails since
18th. Might just have gone quiet.

Jon,
Send me something on email, would you? I think some dirt bag has
blocked some stuff on my AOL account in an effort to get me to fill out a
really professional looking document which includes any and all personal
information (including passwords and SSN). AOL doesn't ask for that stuff,
and I wouldn't give it, of course. Meanwhile, I'm getting nothing for
psubs or the enemy camp, and I don't know what else. Some gets through.
Some doesn't. It seems to be the AOL thing, as the same thing happens on
my iphone and Mac. Damn it. If you don't hear back from me this afternoon,
I guess we'll have to figure something else out.
