Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] riding the bubble



My old Polaris missile boat used two center hard tanks for the hover
system. You'd start with one full and one empty, the empty one was
vented inboard and the full one was pressurized over sea pressure.
You'd get trimmed up, slowing down while you did it and when you were
at all stop and hovering, the computer (1963 style) would either flood
or blow as needed. After a few cycles things would damp down an you'd
be hovering at missile firing depth. When the vented tank would get
near full, the system just switched tanks. After things settled down
it didn't take much to hold it in hover.
