RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Fw: Herves sub

Correct me if im wrong… but an ambient pressure sub is supposed to have some kind of an air pocket… and since the diver is under the pressure of the water above it… and that air pocket will also contain air under pressure…. Hence the term ambient (at the same pressure of its surrounds)

Outwards opening hatch’s of that size on the sub below, and the scuba tank visible… I dare say that sub is a scuba only sub… ie the passenger compartment/hull is at exactly the same pressure as outside with no air pockets…

If that were the case…. I would think the outboard may have pressure compensation as far as keeping it dry while diving on the trolling motors that are visible at the back… but I highly doubt the outboard would be able to run at that depth… the pressure compensation would have to be very very accurate with changes in depth….

Did you know, not tilting your outboard motor up while being towed by another boat can cause water to be forced up the exhaust up the leg of an outboard into the block/cylinders through the exhaust ports? Anything deeper than 40ft without an accurate enough pressure compensation mechanism would probably cause the same thing to happen!

Hi Mike,

No, that isn't the model with the outboard. That one's a conventional battery powered ambient. I happened to see that one or one exactly like it on a visit to his Florida facility years ago. Seemed a perfectly good boat, although I didn't get an opportunity to dive it. I've seen video of that one diving.

Thanks,

Alec
