American veneer and plywood boatbuilding was heavily influenced, in the 
early days, by British practice. The famous PT boats were direct 
descendants of British designs.

I don't know much about Sleeping Beauty, but it would not surprise me to 
learn that it was derived from something SOE had built for them.
