David,
I don't have any drawings on the mechanism for
contra-rotating propellers.
Counter-rotating refers to props turning in
opposite directions on separate shafts or engines such as on the right and
left wings of a twin-engine airplane.
Torpedoes are the most common application for contra-rotating props
because they are operating at high speed and high torque, and there is a real
need to offset the adverse rotational effects. In most applications
anything you would gain would be offset by the loss of final output due to
increased size, weight, and friction of the transmission. If I recall
correctly there is one class of Russian subs that uses contra-rotating props,
but I can't remember which one.
What application are you considering?
Jim
