Glazing is the general term for any material that provides a transparent 
barrier. It is of course derived from the word "glass," but refers to 
any transparent solid used for windows and the like.

I would have to take issue with the claim that acrylic has optical 
properties superior to glass. It's only true if you refer only to window 
glass; optical glasses are far superior. Not that I'm advocating crown 
or flint glass for subs. Frankly, I have to wonder just how "good" are 
the optical properties needed in that application!
