Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Sub as panoramic film platform

Glazing is the general term for any material that provides a transparent barrier. It is of course derived from the word "glass," but refers to any transparent solid used for windows and the like.

I would have to take issue with the claim that acrylic has optical properties superior to glass. It's only true if you refer only to window glass; optical glasses are far superior. Not that I'm advocating crown or flint glass for subs. Frankly, I have to wonder just how "good" are the optical properties needed in that application!

Marc

Hi Marc,

I think I am missing part of this thread, what is "acrylic glazing"?

As for using glass, it's optical qualities are not as good as acrylic.
I have seen it used to making pressure housings for electronics on
unmanned underwater vehicles.

Thanks,

What about glass? To what extent can glass be substituted for acrylic
glazing, and what changes have to be made to the mounting arrangements?
