Alan, So these are a normal regular thing out there. I prefer the usual tornado or hurricane or wildfire over shaking ground. At least one can lay low in a ditch until the coast is clear. Thanks, we are 500 miles away.
Although the earthquake was of a similar magnitude to Haiti, there wasn't that much destruction.
Two people seriously injured, a number of minor injuries.
There are areas of N.Z. that get earthquakes regularly; I've been in a few minor ones.
It can be a bit exciting.
