When a missile is launched, there is a plastic dome covering this bird that is destroyed by shaped charges. Once its gone a rocket motor blasts its gasses below this missile and pressurizes this tube above sea pressure...once on its way, it barely even gets wet!. water pours in and is actually quite a bit heavier than this missile it replaced. A timed high pressure blow of air and an opened water outlet valve compensates quickly for this difference in ballast weight. A psub could easily fit inside the inside diameter of this three story missile tube...it's very big!

Carsten they do shoot them from underwater. I am not sure what the diameter of the
tubes are but does not seem like the water would be 65 tons worth. All combined that
is one heck of a drop weight 1,560 tons

I think they shoot them from underwater - so the compartment will be filled with water after launching.
