[PSUBS-MAILIST] AW: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Monturiol's "Ictíneo"

Hello
The ictineo is not an forgotten sub.  Last year was the celebration of the 150 years of the first Ictineo and this year was a celebration a in honour of Monturiol.
There is a new Ictineo or in Catalan "Ictineu " in construction the link is:
http://www.ictineu.net/empresa/index.php
This page is in english most of the pages are in catalan because this is a sort of national project in Cataluna.  Now Narciso Monutriol is a kind of hero in Cataluna he invented the first submarine with double hull, the first submarine with an engine for underwater navigation and as far as i know also the first submarine with outside searchligths.  The book he wrote about his experiences is very nice.
The idea of the submarine was to help harvest precious coral, red coral, and to save many divers lives that were lost every year in the coral harvest in front of the coasts of cataluna.
The new sub looks nice.
Best wishes
Juergen

No great surprise there. Look at how little is said about Simon Lake, even though he developed the features that made a fleet submarine a practical proposition. For years I could not figure out what had bridged the gap between the plongeur type boats of Holland and the level-diving boats with saddle tanks that appeared a short time later. Those features came from Lake, but just try finding a book that gives him credit for them...
