Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] K-250 on ebay

I agree with Vance. Maybe 5 to 10 k for the sub as is. Then another 5k to get it back in diving condition . The acrylic dome looks pretty hazed over.   Even though this sub has the pedigree of having been built by Kittredge Industries I would be  cautious of an early model 250 with the hull reinforcement pad around the conning tower.  George discontinued  adding this on later models. Any external hull reinforcement pad should have a hole drilled and threaded for 1/4" pipe . When the welding of the pad is complete a 2psi or 3psi air test should be done to check for pinholes in the welds. ( Its very easy to get pinholes in lap type welds ). Without a test a person does not know if  saltwater intrusion has caused corrosion between the hull and the pad.  This could be an expensive repair.
The Seller states that he has all the original documentation from when the sub was built .  If George performed an air test on the pad it will be noted in the paper work if not then look for some evidence of the test fitting hole.

I'd guess that $30K is roughly double what the sub is worth WITH new acrylic, which I'm betting it doesn't have. Maybe ask the members who have purchased one to contact you off site and share the painful truth about purchase price(s).

I wondering if it comes with new viewports and battries.
$30K seems rather high, I would love to pick up a K boat,
but must save moneys for my main project...

Cheers!

It might negotiate down, and should. Back in the 70s, a K-250 sold for $14K (I
think). If it has been maintained, or at least stored inside, someone might do
well with going to the water without having to go through Brent Hartwig's trials
and tribulations. Hey, it's only money, right?
