Hi Brian,

There are several acoustic nav systems for tracking submersible targets.  As with most things you usually get what you pay for.

Bang for buck it's hard to beat Desert Star Systems (I used to be work for them).  http://www.desertstar.com/Products_product.aspx?intProductID=1
Is about $10K.  Their standard offerings at 42KHz may not have the range you are looking for though.
