I feel really dumb. I live in one of the most pirate-ridden areas of the 
world - not quite the Somali coast, but almost - and that particular 
advantage never occurred to me. Precocious senility?

You're right, of course. Luxury yachts are a huge temptation to pirates, 
but as long as this one kept a sharp lookout and kept deep water under 
the keel, the option of submerging would always be there. Or, 
considering that the hull form shown is more efficient submerged, maybe 
snorkel-depth submergence would be its normal cruise mode, making 
passage on the surface only when the owner or his guests wanted to 
sunbathe - a practice that would be discouraged in the Java Straits, the 
Sulu Sea or off the Somali coast.

Better still, with the kind of commo equipment this thing would carry, 
it could call down the wrath of God on the pirates while at the same 
time making it impossible for them to seize hostages.
