Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Alternative 02 Through Hull
Hi James,
I concur with Alex re reading the book (another book).
I had to do an "Emergency oxygen provider" course before the dive shop
would fill my scuba tank with O2. This was after having the brand new tank &
first stage regulator O2 cleaned. The book deals with stuff like adiabatic
heating.
Wich is pressurized air rushing through or into a constriction, heating &
igniting
any combustable material (including aluminium, hydrocarbon deposits from
compressors & grease.) Also the O2 flow metor has a pretty fine nozzle that
can clog easily,
so as Alex says the pipe work preceding it would need periodic inspection.
Sorry if you already know this.
Alan

Hi James,
It needs to be removeable so you can clean it. For oxygen service,
cleaning is a pretty thorough process. I recommend the book "Oxygen
Hacker's Companion" by Vance Harlow for instructions. Actually I'd say
it's more than a recommendation... if you're putting in O2, learning
this is absolutely indispensable from a safety perspective.
Thanks,
Alec

hi All,
Can someone let me know why the O2 through hull shown on page 41 of K350
plans (see attachment) needs to be made like that? Is it just to be
removeable? At the end of the day its a through hull with 1/2 inch NPT at
each end just like a normal pipe nipple?
Whats to stop me just welding in a normal 1/2 inch pipe nipple? Is there
is a specific need for the 1/4 inch hole (perhaps oxygen safety)? If so
i could just make a 1/2 inch bar with a 1/4 inch hole and weld that in?
I cant see the point in that system unless im missing something?
Thanks as always
James
