 Hi Allen. I haven't put my sub in the water yet but I don't see where there 
is ANY pressure pushing the hatch open as you first begin submerging. Why would 
there be ? 
Hatch dogs are used to compress the "O" ring on the hatch because the water 
might seep in a bit if it wasn't "snugged down". 
The only upward pressure would be from the small amount of air contained in 
the hatch itself. My hatch weighs about 100 pounds and a rough guess is the 
hatch dome plus ring only holds about 3 gallons of water. 
That could be an upward pressure of 24 pounds I guess but wouldn't be 
enough to lift the hatch. 
When a "spring assist" is added to the hatch for easier lifting it would be 
OK to make it strong enough so the hatch only weighs 5 pounds, because the hatch 
dogs will still keep it closed. 
Once the sub hatch is about 3 feet under, no way are you gonna get that 
thing open even without the hatch dogs.
