Hi Jim,
On my boat a number of items will be independent of the pressure hull, like the battery pods, air bottles, ballast tanks, and rudder controls, but I see what you mean. I've been watching steel prices and they are starting to creep up now after bottoming out. So I'm getting a little antcy about waiting any longer. I'm thinking also to just build a shallower boat first, and then later build a whole new upgrade which I could swap out.

Hi Brian,
It's only my opinion, but there is a LOT more to it than the conning tower. Any thru hulls, maybe battery pods, motor mounts and all the ribbing. My thought is get started and do what you can and if the project takes longer so what. That's part of the reason mine is taking as long as it is. When I'm busy I have the money but not time. When I'm not busy I have the time but not the money.
Best Regards,
Jim K

Hi All,
I'm having a bit of a delema deciding wheather or not to go with
either 3/8" thick hull or 1/4" hull. I'm thining that initially maybe I
should go with the 1/4" now (so I can get this off the ground) mainly due to
budget constraints and then at a later date upgrade to the thicker hull,
which would take me deeper. My question is how hard would it be to cut out
the conning tower( 3/4" thick) from the 1/4" hull and paste it on to a 3/8"
thick hull at a later date? Would I need to grind out all of the weld seam?
And would that adversly effect the metal in that area by rewelding?
Thanks, Brian
