stuff that goes BANG really loud.
The most obvious thing I gleaned from it was the type of ring
stiffener around the blast projectile hole. They had better results with a
short/thick ring than a longer/thinner ring.
On my sub the hatch ring and window rings have a combination of both.
The 3/8 inch outer rings are all 6 inch long AS-516-70 steel, with a
thicker ring welded in as the base for the plexi or hatch land.
In the case of the windows, the base ring is 1 inch thick by 2 inch wide.
In the hatch ring it's 1-1/2 inch thick by 2 inch wide.
The Stachiw book called for a 24 inch flat window to have a base
2-1/2 inches wide and plexi at 3 inch thick.
Well.......I had the 2 inch ring already so I went with it.
As for the exterior stiffener rings on Gregg's sub, I kind of like the
idea. It certainly would make it easier to fabricate. Your own thoughts on using
them for attachment points is also good. Very handy to get at for maintenance
like repainting too.
I've never seen Gregg's sub in person but hope to one day. It looks like a
good one.
Thanks for the link. Frank D.
