Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Prone position tips?
Sean appears to be correct as far as I can find out on the web. Here
are a couple of other resources.

The google calculator claims that a league is equal to 3.45 miles, where
answers.google.com says a league is equal to 3 miles or 3 nautical miles
depending upon who was doing the defining. However, 1 league = 3
nautical miles = 3.45 statute miles appears to be correct. I did also
find a reference to a "league" being a unit of measure based upon
walking distance.
There appears to be an assumption by many (myself included until I
looked all this stuff up to answer Greg) that 20,000 leagues under the
sea was a reference to depth, when in fact it was a reference to the
distance (horizontally) traveled by the Nautilus under water.

An bit of background on the league:

The league is a variable distance of approximately three miles, but
historically most often defined as the distance a man can walk in an
hour. The fathom, conversely, is used exclusively for measuring the
depth of water. Examining magnitudes alone, the league is 2640 times
larger, however, since the implied vector directions are
perpendicular, their cross-product is zero and one cannot be said to
be a multiple of the other.
