RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] realistic depictions

I went to see Das Boot when it was still sub-titled and hadn’t been dubbed with English yet.  My girlfriend couldn’t understand how I could understand what was happening or going to happen without reading the sub-titles.  Very good film and if you get the chance, pick up the director’s cut version.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] realistic depictions

  Jay and all:

If you have never seen the movie "Das Boat", Although it has been out for some time, I highly recommend this film. It gives a realistic feel of how life aboard one of these diesel boats must have been like during war time (The booger flinging scene was added for the general publics gross effect).
It is viewed from the perspective of a German U-boat crew and although the regime is now considered evil, you almost feel sorry for these low level military guys who find themselves washed up in the actions of this war.
The attitude given from the crew of the resupply ship in Lisbon is particularly harsh, as these few are so distant from the suffering this crew and those on the other side feel.
Much effort was given to reenact life aboard one of these ships in the way of realism. To a submarine enthusiast, a must see film.
