I remember some of that thread. Much like a Kort nozzle, the shape of a
control surface can make a difference. Dean's may be flat but their large size
makes a difference too.
The small wings I have on the sides of my boat are shaped like airplane
wings with the upper surface slightly raised and the bottom fairly flat. Like an
airfoil.
